Grown Alchemist Energize Body Cleanser Review: A Smooth Low-Foam Wash That Loses Its Lift
Grown Alchemist Energize Body Cleanser is a premium body wash positioned around plant-based cleansing, low-foam texture and an energising botanical scent. We reviewed the 300ml pump bottle over repeated use, focusing on how the formula behaved in the shower, how the scent changed with water, and whether the overall experience felt strong enough for its price.

Formula & Skin Feel
The formula is a clear gel with a low-foam texture, which matches the brand’s positioning. It does not feel overly tacky in the hand, and on wet skin it becomes smooth and slightly slick. That slip is one of the better parts of the product: it helps the cleanser move easily across the skin without feeling greasy or unpleasant.
Each pump dispensed around 2ml in our use, and a full shower took roughly three to four pumps. That puts usage at around 6–8ml per wash, meaning a 300ml bottle would last roughly 35–50 showers depending on how much you use. For a premium cleanser, that makes it feel more easily consumed than expected.
Cleansing strength sits in the middle. It does the job without feeling either unusually light or especially thorough. After rinsing, the skin feels neutral and comfortable rather than tight, stripped or heavily softened. We did not feel the need to apply moisturiser immediately after use, although the finish was more balanced than noticeably hydrating.
Scent Profile
In the Bottle
In the bottle, the fragrance is reasonably pleasant. Rose and bergamot are the easiest notes to recognise, giving it a floral profile with a citrus edge. The chamomile is harder to place, and the overall impression is clean and botanical without feeling especially complex.
On Wet Skin
In the shower, heat and water dull the fresher rose-and-bergamot opening, shifting it into a cleaner, more soapy character that we found less appealing than the bottle aroma. It remains noticeable while washing, so that change is difficult to ignore.
After Rinse
After rinsing, the fragrance fades almost immediately. That may suit anyone who wants a body cleanser that will not compete with perfume or other products, but it also means the post-shower impression is brief.
Design & Shelf Presence
The bottle is restrained and recognisably Grown Alchemist, with a simple label and a darker plastic body. The pump works as expected, and the smaller 300ml size is easy to handle in the shower.
As a bathroom object, it sits somewhere between supermarket practicality and premium design. It looks more considered than a standard everyday wash, but it does not have the visual weight or finish of the strongest products in this category. The plastic also shows hard-water marks, which makes it less appealing as a display piece over time.
The 1L refill option is a useful practical detail, especially for regular users of the brand. Still, the bottle itself did not feel particularly gift-ready to us unless the recipient already liked Grown Alchemist.
Longevity & Value
This is where the product becomes harder to justify. The skin feel is comfortable, and the cleanser rinses cleanly, but the measured usage rate works against it. At around 6–8ml per shower, the 300ml bottle does not feel especially slow-moving.
The bigger issue is that the experience does not quite match the positioning. The aroma starts well enough, becomes less appealing during use, then disappears quickly after rinsing. At this level, expectations shift beyond basic cleansing. The formula needs to feel distinctive, the fragrance needs to hold together, or the presentation needs to carry more of the experience. Here, each part is acceptable, but none gives the product much lift.
We would not repurchase it, and it has reduced our interest in trying another scent from the range. As a gift, it would only make sense for someone who already likes Grown Alchemist.
Who It’s For
This will suit someone who wants a low-foam gel cleanser with a smooth feel and a clean rinse. It may also appeal to existing Grown Alchemist buyers who like the brand’s restrained packaging and refill system.
It is less suited to someone looking for a lasting scent, a strongly premium bathroom object, or a cleanser that feels especially generous in daily use. If fragrance behaviour is a major part of the purchase, this one may disappoint.
ATC Verdict: Is It Worth the Splurge?
No, based on our use.
The formula is comfortable enough, with a smooth low-foam feel, clean rinse and no obvious dryness after use. But the product does not perform in the way its positioning suggests. The fragrance opens with some freshness in the bottle, then shifts into something less appealing under water before fading almost immediately after rinsing. Combined with a three-to-four-pump shower use, it feels more functional than indulgent.
Better suited to existing Grown Alchemist buyers than anyone looking for a standout premium body cleanser.
A polished idea, but the shower experience falls short.
Editor’s Note
This review is based on the 300ml bottle tested over repeated use. Product details, including country of manufacture, refer to the bottle reviewed. Some brand information was clearer on the physical packaging than on the product page at the time of writing.
