Ashley & Co Washup All Over Tui & Kahili Body Wash Review: Different Enough to Stand Apart

Ashley & Co Washup All Over Tui & Kahili Body Wash 500ml bottle on a marble surface

Ashley & Co’s Washup All Over Tui & Kahili is a New Zealand-made body wash that pairs sandalwood with floral and ginger notes. Designed as an everyday cleanser, it combines botanical ingredients with a fragrance profile that feels noticeably different from many mainstream alternatives. We tested it over several weeks, focusing on skin feel, scent behaviour, packaging, and whether the overall experience feels distinctive enough to justify choosing over more familiar alternatives.

Formula & Skin Feel

The formula sits comfortably between lightweight and rich. It isn’t runny or diluted, though it stops short of feeling particularly concentrated. Two to three pumps were typically enough for a full shower.

Lather is airy and bubbly rather than creamy, creating enough foam to feel satisfying without becoming excessive. Cleansing performance sits in the moderate range. It leaves the skin feeling clean without crossing into the squeaky-clean territory that can sometimes signal a harsher formula.

Most importantly, it never left our skin feeling stripped. After drying off, skin felt comfortable and balanced, with no real desire to reach for moisturiser immediately afterwards. For everyday use, that’s a meaningful strength.

Scent Profile

In the Bottle

Ashley & Co describes Tui & Kahili through notes of lily, kahili ginger, and sandalwood. In practice, sandalwood was the dominant impression throughout our testing.

The first smell from the bottle was simply interesting. It immediately felt different from the marine, citrus, and fresh-linen profiles that dominate much of the body wash market. There is a gentle sweetness present, but the sandalwood remains the defining characteristic.

On Wet Skin

On wet skin, the fragrance remains remarkably consistent. The scent softens slightly once mixed with water, though its character remains largely unchanged. Sandalwood continues to lead, supported by subtle sweetness rather than overt floral or ginger notes.

Ashley & Co describes the scent as bold and boisterous. We found it distinctive rather than forceful. The fragrance is noticeable throughout use and creates a pleasant shower experience, but it doesn’t dominate the room or linger aggressively afterwards.

After Rinse

After rinsing, a light trace remains on the skin. Thirty to sixty minutes later it was still detectable, although generally only when close to the skin rather than projecting outward. This feels less like a fragrance product and more like a body wash that prioritises the shower experience itself.

Design & Shelf Presence

Ashley & Co takes a restrained approach to presentation. Branding is simple, the label avoids unnecessary embellishment, and the overall look feels considered without demanding attention.

The most interesting aspect of the design is the bottle itself. While the 100% recycled plastic aligns with the brand’s positioning, the material is noticeably soft in the hand. Depending on your perspective, this either reinforces the sustainability story or slightly undermines the sense of quality in the hand.

This creates an unusual tension. If you know the brand, the bottle feels intentionally understated. If you don’t, it could easily be mistaken for something less expensive.

The pump has performed well throughout testing, and the availability of a 1L refill is a welcome practical touch. Still, this isn’t a product we’d display as a design statement in the way some bathroom brands encourage.

Longevity & Value

At roughly two to three pumps per shower, consumption feels reasonable for a 500ml bottle. The scent is present during use, but its longevity afterwards is relatively modest.

Much of the appeal comes down to the fragrance profile. The formula itself performs well, offering comfortable cleansing without excessive dryness. The scent, however, is what separates this product from countless alternatives.

That distinction cuts both ways. Tui & Kahili is memorable because it doesn’t smell like most body washes. It is also likely to be more divisive because of that difference.

While the fragrance remained distinctive throughout testing, it never quite developed into a scent we found ourselves actively craving between showers. Even so, the overall experience left us curious to explore other fragrances within the Ashley & Co range, which speaks positively about the underlying product itself.

Who It’s For

This body wash is best suited to people who enjoy sandalwood-forward fragrances and want something that feels different from mainstream offerings.

It should also appeal to buyers who value refill options and understated branding more than overt luxury presentation.

Those seeking a rich, creamy lather or a body wash that doubles as an all-day fragrance may find it less compelling.

ATC Verdict: Is It Worth the Splurge?

For the right person, yes.

Ashley & Co Washup All Over Tui & Kahili performs well where it matters most. It cleans effectively, avoids leaving the skin feeling stripped, and delivers a fragrance profile that stands apart from the crowd. At the same time, the soft recycled-plastic bottle and distinctive scent profile mean it doesn’t quite achieve the sense of occasion some buyers may be looking for.

This is best suited to someone looking for a distinctive everyday body wash rather than a luxury bathroom showpiece.

Different enough to be memorable, though not quite compelling enough to become a repeat purchase.

Editor’s Note

This body wash was tested over several weeks as part of our regular shower routine. We paid particular attention to skin feel after drying, scent behaviour during and after use, packaging quality, and how the overall experience compared with other premium body washes previously reviewed by ATC.
