Jasper + Myrtle Blueberry Dark Chocolate Review: Controlled Fruit, Clean Finish
Blueberry is an uncommon and often risky inclusion in dark chocolate. It can easily turn sharp or artificial if handled poorly. This bar from Jasper + Myrtle takes a restrained approach, placing the berry alongside a cocoa-forward base instead of letting it dominate.
The result is a flavoured bar that prioritises balance over impact.

Appearance
A deep, even brown with a soft satin finish, the chocolate shows clean moulding and no visible bloom. There are no obvious inclusions on the surface, suggesting the blueberry is finely integrated rather than visually featured.
Aroma
The aroma is subtle and composed. Cocoa leads, with the berry arriving quietly in the background.
There was slight variation between tasters. Kiki detected clearer blueberry notes alongside the chocolate, while I found it more subdued, emerging only after a moment. In both cases, the aroma signalled control rather than sweetness.
Taste & Texture
The bar snaps firmly and begins to melt slowly with warmth, indicating good temper and structure.
As it melts, the berry appears early, followed by the bitterness of the cocoa base. Sweetness is present but measured, keeping the experience grounded in dark chocolate territory. The blueberry reads as a soft, slightly sweet note. It never becomes sour or overly sharp.
Texture remains smooth throughout. An occasional light crunch suggests inclusion, but it is subtle and does not interrupt the flow.
With coffee, the cocoa deepens slightly, though the pairing does not materially elevate the overall experience.
Aftertaste & Finish
The finish is clean and controlled. The berry lingers a little longer than the cocoa, leaving a gentle echo without dryness or harsh acidity.
It is easy to finish without thinking too hard about it.
ATC Verdict: Is It Worth the Splurge?
This is a carefully handled flavoured dark chocolate that keeps bitterness and sweetness in check.
We enjoyed it and would happily eat through a bar, particularly as a gift or a change from more familiar flavour pairings. However, it did not create a strong pull to return or seek it out again.
A well-executed inclusion that delivers exactly what it promises, without pushing further.
Editor’s Note
Blueberry can be difficult to integrate into dark chocolate, and this bar manages it without turning artificial or acidic. The flavour is noticeable but controlled, contributing interest without defining the experience.
It works, even if it does not leave a lasting impression.
