Bahen & Co Cherry & Coconut 70% Cacao – Expecting a Cherry Ripe, Finding Mostly Cacao

Bahen & Co Cherry & Coconut 70% Cacao chocolate bar in yellow speckled wrap on dark stone background

We picked this up thinking “Cherry Ripe, but grown up.” With cherry and coconut front and centre, we expected something decadent but less sweet, anchored by Bahen & Co’s 70% cacao base. The packaging is the brand’s familiar minimalist wrap — this time in a bold, yellow-black speckled pattern that’s modern and a little playful.

Appearance

The bar has a plain mould with a clean snap, though the chocolate’s surface is slightly dull rather than glossy. It looks like a solid block of dark chocolate — no immediate visual hints at what’s inside.

Aroma

The nose is pure cacao. If the cherry or coconut are present, they’re hiding deep beneath the chocolate’s dominant scent. No confection-like fruit aroma, no obvious toasty coconut — just a straightforward, good-quality dark chocolate smell.

Taste & Texture

The first bite is slightly bitter but well balanced for 70% cacao. The fruit and coconut don’t appear consistently — they only emerge when you hit a chunk. Even then, the cherry brings a light tartness rather than a burst of flavour, and the coconut is more about texture than taste. The chocolate base itself is smooth and refined, but the mix-ins feel sparse.

Aftertaste & Finish

The coconut’s chew lingers faintly, but the lasting memory is the clean, earthy bitterness of quality dark chocolate. It’s pleasant, but the promised cherry-coconut duet never quite becomes a melody.

ATC Verdict: Is It Worth the Splurge?

This is a nice dark chocolate, but the extras are too subtle for the name on the wrapper. If you’re here for bold cherry and coconut, you may feel short-changed; if you simply want a smooth, well-made 70% cacao with occasional texture, it’s a pleasant enough choice. For us, it’s not one we’d rush to buy again — but it hasn’t put us off exploring the rest of Bahen & Co’s range.

Good chocolate. Light on the headline act.
