What is the Best Tim Tam Flavour

Everyone loves a Tim Tam, but what is the best Tim Tam flavor? Luckily we’re here to find out.

There’s a good reason the Tim Tam has been on the market since 1964; they’re downright delicious and still made in Australia.

Tim Tams are perfect with tea or coffee, bite some off either end, and you have yourself a straw. Great as a snack or even as a dessert. Try them smashed up and sprinkled over ice cream for one perfect dessert.

What is a Tim Tam?

A Tim Tam is a Brand of biscuit introduced to Australia by biscuit brand Arnott’s.

The original biscuit has two crunchy biscuits on the top and bottom, with chocolate cream in the middle and then covered with chocolate.

From the original, there is now a variety of different flavours on the market, but still with a similar structure as the original.

Tim Tam Flavours

Currently, on the Aussie market, there are two ranges of Tim Tams, there’s classic and deluxe.

Tim Tam flavours in the classic range are Original, Butterscotch and Cream, Dark, Double coat, Murray river salted caramel, White, Caramel and Coconut Cream Flavour.

In the deluxe range are Dark choc raspberry tart, Decadent triple choc, Dark choc mint, and Salted caramel brownie.

Tim Tam Ranking

The problem is, with so many flavours, what is the best Tim Tam flavour?
That’s what we were wondering anyway, plus it gave us an excuse to get our hands on every flavour we could and try them, you know, for science.

So far, we have tried 13 different flavours and completed the hugely difficult job of ranking them from 13 to number 1.

We decided to judge the classic and deluxe ranges together to see how they all compare.

So here it is, our ranking from 13 to 1.

UPDATE: Since writing this article, a number of flavours have been discontinued as follows:

  • Murray River Salted Caramel
  • Coconut Cream
  • Butterscotch & Cream
  • Dark Choc Raspberry Tart

13. Salted Caramel Brownie

Coated with milk chocolate with a soft brownie flavour centre, you can definitely taste the caramel. However, something about the brownie and slight saltiness didn’t do it for us.

12. Dark Choc Mint

Love it or leave it, people become polarised around choc mint flavoured anything. The dark choc mint Tim Tam taste similar to another Arnott’s favourite, the mint slice.

11. Tim Tam Murray River Salted Caramel

Similar to the chewy caramel but with a hint of saltiness, it was almost unnoticeable to us and we kind of wished it was a little more apparent.

10. Tim Tam Chewy Caramel

The chewy caramel centre is the right amount of sweet, the milk chocolate is perfectly matched here. This is why chewy caramel is the best tasting of the caramel flavours.

9. Tim Tam White

White chocolate coated biscuit with white chocolate filling, the white chocolate is a little thin and doesn’t come through enough. If only there was a double coat version.

8. Coconut Cream Flavour

Coconut cream flavour is the latest addition to the Tim Tam range. Once you open the pack, the strong sweet scent of coconut wafts through the air. The coconut flavour is moderately sweet and has the texture of coconut icing without the typical desiccated coconut added. Luckily, the milk chocolate adds enough sweetness to keep this flavour satisfying.

7. Tim Tam Original

Original is still a favourite but with the newer flavours it makes its way down the list a bit.  Original flavour is a staple flavour that can be easily eaten, we keep them stashed away for emergency snacking sessions or unexpected guests.

6. Tim Tam Dark

The dark has a more intense flavour than the original and won out just slightly over the original. The dark chocolate isn’t overly bitter and the centre is smooth and creamy, so those that don’t usually eat dark chocolate can still enjoy.

5. Tim Tam Butterscotch & Cream Flavour

The smell of butterscotch is the first thing you’ll notice right before the creamy butterscotch and milk chocolate hit.

4. Decadent Triple Choc

Layer upon layer of chocolate, with a gooey centre. Kind of like the original, but more like a chewy chocolate brownie.

3. Tim Tam Double Coat

Only just missing out on the top spot are the double coat flavour, it’s hard to believe how much the extra coat levels up the original creating a more decadent flavour.

2. Dark Choc Raspberry Tart

The jam like raspberry centre is sweet with a little bit of tartness, sandwiched between crispy biscuits and then coated in a smooth but not bitter dark chocolate has won us over.

1. Café Latte

We were sad to see our former top-position flavour, ‘Dark Choc Raspberry Tart’, become discontinued. But It didn’t take long to find a drop-in replacement for that number 1 spot, and that flavour for us is the deluxe Café Latte flavour. Its smooth, milky chocolate and creamy coffee centre will be a hit for the coffee lovers out there.

Final thoughts

You can’t really go wrong with Tim Tams; it’s hard not to like every flavour. We are looking forward to tasting and testing any future flavours, and hopefully, if Arnott’s is listening, they get to work on a Tim Tam white double coat.
