Daiquiri with Dark Rum

A twist on the classic Daiquiri, simply swapping out the white Cuban rum with your favorite dark rum will add another element to this cocktail. The dark rum helps to mellow the freshly squeezed lime juice and adds a sweeter scent to the cocktail.

Rum isn’t for everyone, but if you like the sweet and sour theme, you should give our Gin Sour a go.

How much rum in a daiquiri?

In an  IBA official Daiquiri (International Bartenders Association), 2 fl oz  (60 ml) of white rum should be used instead of dark rum.

Why use dark rum instead of white rum?

Dark rums have more flavour than a white rum, giving the Daiquiri a more varied and interesting flavour. We used Ron Millonario Reserva Especial 15 which has flavours similar to those in a Christmas fruit cake.

Do i need to use sugar in a daiquiri?

You don’t need to, but it does help balance the tartness of the lime. You can substitute sugar for an artificial sweetener, just be mindful to use the appropriate equivalent. We found it’s better to use powdered artificial sweetener over the tablet variety just because it’s easier to make sure it’s mixed through.
